On May 31, 2024, at GITEX AFRICA in Marrakech, Morocco, a significant milestone in digital education will be marked with the signing of a partnership to launch the feasibility study for establishing the Applied AI Institute for the Indian Ocean in Madagascar. This initiative addresses the urgent need for advanced skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology in Madagascar and the broader Indian Ocean region. The Vision for the Institute The Applied AI Institute aims to provide accessible, world-class AI education through five strategic pillars:
Remote Learning: Leveraging MOOCs for large-scale, inclusive education, with a goal of training 10,000 Malagasy students annually from September 2024.
Virtual Tutoring: Personalized support via an AI-driven chatbot, "IAgora," for an enhanced learning experience.
Professional Integration: Collaborating with tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Oracle to offer job-oriented training and certifications.
Practical Approach: Hands-on projects in the institute's "digital farm," fostering real-world problem-solving skills.
Incremental Growth: Offering pathways to European-certified bachelor’s and master’s degrees, such as the Bihar programs from ESTIA.
Strategic Impact This institute will position Madagascar as a regional leader in AI education, fostering innovation, creating high-quality job opportunities, and addressing economic challenges through digital transformation.
