7 tips to prepare for online job interviews

Online job interviews can be considered as the new normal in the recruitment world. However, there are few challenges also that come up with online interviews but if you prepare well and follow the right approaches then you will get the desired results. 

Tip #1 : Get familiar with technology

Must ensure that your computer system and internet connection are working properly. It has to be compatible with the software that will be used for the online interview.

You are also recommended to create a distraction-free environment for the interview with appropriate lighting. 

Tip #2 : Practice beforehand & be prepared

You can use various online resources that will help you to practice interview questions over an online interview environment. 

Tip #3 : Be punctual

You are required to show up for the call on time or even 10-15 minutes earlier as it may take you some time to log in or do further process.

Also, early arrival will help you for being comfortable and allow you to focus on the interview.

Moreover, you must ensure that you have downloaded the required application or software ahead of time and you are ready to go at the scheduled interview time. 

Tip #4 : Dress professionally

Although you are not going to face the interview in-person, still you are required to dress up appropriately as you would for an in-person interview. 

You are also required to do well with your body language such as posture, hand movement, etc... . Do remember that the first impression always counts.

Make proper eye contact with the interviewer, do not look at your screen but directly at the camera, as it will let him/her know that you are focusing on the interview.

Tip #5 : Keep your resume & other documents on your desk

You need to have a notebook, pen, resume, and other required documents in your sightline during the online interview to avoid any mishaps or inconvenience.

Also, you can keep you handy notes along with you as well for reference purposes.

Tip #6 : Listen carefully & speak clearly

In an online interview, you are required to listen to the interviewer carefully and attentively. You need to speak very clearly and concisely and avoid mumbling or very long pause to make a positive impact. 

Tip #7 : Follow up after the interview

You should thank the interviewer for giving you the opportunity and time.

This will help you to build a professional bond with the interviewer that will be beneficial for you for the future interview process.

However, if the interviewer provides you the date for the next round or further process, try to avoid reaching out to him before the scheduled date.
